Events organised by Finpro during the KoneAgria 2017 exhibition provided a welcome boost to the export prospects and media visibility of Finnish agricultural companies in key target markets. Finpro’s Agrotechnology from Finland growth program invited a 12-person delegation of agribusiness buyers from Kazakhstan, Poland and Romania as well as eight journalists from Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia to the exhibition. KoneAgria is the biggest annual exhibition of agricultural machinery and equipment in Finland and was held in Tampere on 12-14 October 2017.
The Finnish companies presented their latest technologies and solutions at the Agrotechnology innovations from Finland seminar organised by the growth program, which was followed by about 50 direct meetings between the companies and the international buyers. The companies that participated in the seminar were Antti-Teollisuus, EL-HO, Farmtools, Raniplast, Suokone, PEL-Tuote, Hakki Pilke/Maaselän Kone, Palax, Figen, JPT-Industria and Pellon Group.
Promising new contacts
After the seminar, the buyers visited the exhibition stands and followed up on their discussions with the Finnish companies. As a result, several companies report that negotiations with the new contacts have also continued after KoneAgria, which is a promising sign for possible new business opportunities.
“We had good meetings with buyers and other cooperation parties, especially from Romania and Poland, who are major players in their sectors. These are exactly the types of contacts that we are looking for and we are now continuing discussions with them to take things forward,” says Harri Muilu, Sales Director at Pellon Group.
“In particular, Pellon Group’s solutions for easier, more accurate and automated feeding attracted interest in our meetings and at our exhibition stand. The international journalists have also been in contact with us after the exhibition which demonstrates their interest.”
Media visit brings visibility
The media visit organised by the Agrotechnology from Finland program took the group of journalists to Antti-Teollisuus’ factory in Salo as well as showing the machinery and equipment in action at farms run by Parelan Porsas and Nissi cooperative.
“The media visit was a good opportunity for us to tell journalists about our products. This is long-term work and the visibility that their stories may bring is also useful for our dealers in Russia, for example,” says Jouni Virtaniemi, Commercial Director at Antti-Teollisuus.
During the exhibition day, Valtra organised a comprehensive presentation about its products for the international media group. The group was particularly interested in Valtra’s technologies and also visited the company’s stand to get acquainted with the latest solutions.
Interest in new technologies
The international delegation visited Avant-Tecno’s loader factory in Ylöjärvi and the journalists from the media visit spent time at the company’s exhibition stand. Avant-Tecno’s Sales Manager Markku Kahari is pleased with the results of the activities organised by Agrotechnology from Finland.
“Everything went according to the plan and timetable. The visitors were very interested to learn about our latest technologies. We had meetings with Metalsim Company from Romania and Farmer Magazine & Portal from Poland. The international press contacts were especially useful for us,” he says.
